With the abundance of talented musicians in the Northwest, it’s not hard to believe that Seattle’s Dept of Energy came together rather by accident as Robb Benson was trying to reform the much beloved Dear John Letters. Intending to play with DJL bandmates Cassady Laton and Richard Davidson, he booked a show one night, but then Davidson’s current project, The Young Sportsmen, got added to a different show, forcing Benson to pull together a different configuration to keep his slot on his bill. Benson grabbed Cassady and keyboardist Ty Ballie (Kim Virant, Truly, Flight to Mars) after seeing him perform and knowing instinctively he had to work with him. In the end, it all worked out and Dept of Energy was born. Today DEPT OF ENERGY has released three CD’s, has performed at the prestigious “Bumbershoot” festival and
has earned a solid and loyal following in their home town of Seattle. The group has recently added guitarists “Rock Tim Dejulio” (of North Twin). They plan to record and release a new record this Fall of 2010.
